Turtles and Skis

First semester is finally over! I note that I'm the only one who still has a class and work to do over our lil' break because of my AP Calc class through VHS.....
I've been getting a lot of cross country skiing in now that we finally have decent snow-pack here (2 snow days and counting). Me and my dad (and occasionally my sister) have been heading out to lakes and trails and hills, it's a blast!
For my last day of internship with Veronica, I created my own turtle + turtle boy comic (her characters in her Zanzo Moxie comic in the Worcester Magazine). This is what it says:

Turtle Boy: "Hey -- What does your family do in the winter?"
Turtle: "Nothing."
Turtle Boy: "They must do something! Where do they live?"
Turtle: "It's just what I said -- They simply live under the ice."
Turtle Boy: "But... they couldn't breathe."
Turtle: "Well, that's true. We don't breathe or eat [under the ice], we simply sit in a state near death."
Turtle Boy: "WOW!"
Turtle Boy: "Hey, look! I think I see..."
Turtle: "...My brother! I didn't recognize him under the sand at first!"
Turtle Boy: " Well, I'm glad you're loving with me instead!"
Turtle: "Me too! Let's go home and make some hot chocolate."

Death Note

Ever since I was introduced to the Death Note from my brother's Japanese girlfriend, Miki, I've been a huge fan. Not only is the art awesome, but the story is amazing. It's complicated, and I love the literal genius of Light, L, Near, and Mello.

The story of the death note and Shinigami  is very interesting, but Tsugumi Ohba and manga artist Takeshi Obata turn it into something incredible. I highly recommend checking the series out!

I've yet to see the movie, but I definitely will asap!

Also, I'd recommend taking a look at the Veronica Fish's blog, to check out the new graphic novel, Pirates of Mars she illustrated (by JJ Kahrs), you can read the comic on Pirates of Mars or buy a special preview at Lulu, plus she has a discount code on her blog.

I've started practicing the hurdles in practice, I'm excited for my first track meet March 31, pretty soon!
I met with Veronica Hebard today, who has an illustration blog. I'm gonna be interning with her next year and I'm really excited for that, she's a great artist and seems like a really cool person.
This drawing is on what I think is called "contrasto" paper. Basically you use an exacto knife and cut on either side - black or white. It's very fun to use! I did this based on Alice, holding the potion which will shrink her.

Mask

I got the internship I wanted! It's gonna be awesome next year!

This is a project I did in my art class last semester. It was a calligraphy project, and I chose blackletter (very similar to old english,) always one of my favorite fonts. My idea was that there was a girl standing in front of a mirror, and her reflection shows her true self - evil. She masks who she is, but inside is her true identity. The words that went along with it represent someone who was betrayed by this girl when she revealed her true character to them.

These are the girl's evil eyes, watching whoever sees her for who she is.

I'm going to do an internship for my senior year, so right now I'm trying to contact artists that could possibly use help!
Alice in Wonderland looks like such an awesome movie, I love 3d movies like avatar, and I bought tickets to see Alice in imax next week so that'll be wicked cool!
Next week I have my Art All State interview. I really, really want to get in, it would be awesome to meet new people and artists!
