There is another shore, you know

"What matters it how far we go?"
His scaly friend replied,
"There is another shore, you know,
Upon the other side.
The further off from England
The nearer is to France -
Then turn not pale, beloved snail,
But come and join the dance."

Franz Ferdinand's version of the Lobster Quadrille

My sister and I finally graduated from West Boylston High on June 3rd, it's great to finally be done! I have my orientation at the University of Maine soon: June 19-20. After that I will be away for the majority of the summer, first staying on Long Lake in Maine, then Lake Michigan, and finally heading out for my third season on the glaciers in the North Cascades. I'll have just about a week to pack and head off for college when I return!
Tomorrow at 9 am, I am running in my town's 5k around the Wachusett Reservoir!
I was amazed that both my sister and I received the Elton & Kathleen Drew Scholarship for Continued Study in the Arts ($5000!) and I also received the Mass. Foreign Language Association Board of Directors Award, which I believe will be $500.
Yesterday I went on my final art trip with the NAHS. This year we went to Boston and visited the MFA, Faneuil Hall, and saw the Blue Man Group. We saw actress Rachel McAdams at the MFA which I thought was pretty cool!

Aliens & Jordan Romero

I'm in advanced visual communications this semester and I've created a few videos with Windows Moviemaker.
One was a story, in which I used Blink 182's "Aliens Exist" and some of my sisters little characters (including Tim Burton's Stainboy as the main character)!
The other was a typography for an advertisement. I chose to promote Jordan Romero (13, and aiming to climb the 7 summits, with only 1 left) and his campaign to raise money for the expedition to Mt. Vinson in Antarctica!

Stainboy

In visual communications class, I have to create a storyboard of photographs. After some thought, I decided to create a story to go along with Blink 182's "Alien's Exist." Tim Burton has a character called Stainboy, which my sister has an action figure of. Stainboy will be my main character, who is being followed by aliens, and the it will be his story of overcoming his  fear of them. So, I planned out thumbnail sketches, and I have begun to photograph it! I will post it when complete

Hey mom, there's something in the back room
I hope it's not the creatures from above
You used to read me stories.. as if my dreams were boring

Up all night long, and there's something very wrong

Been best friends and will be till we die

I know the CIA would say, what you hear is all hearsay

Aspirations

will it contain the colors of our dreams

I wrote this last year during track season when I would write a new quote every other day. I love this quote, I heard it while watching the preview for Angels and Airwaves much anticipated movie, "LOVE".

I'm finally nearing the end of the infinite process of applying to college.. applications and supplements: check,  school payments: check, recommendations: check. I'm currently in progress with my CSS profile and Fafsa, and I've started sending in my portfolio and will have them all sent by next weekend. And, lastly, scholarships... I've applied for only one so far, but next weekend I'm gonna be doing a ton of those. So, in two weeks, this will be off my shoulders!

Song of the Year

At the end of the year, my dad, my sister, and I make our top 5 songs lists of our favorite songs we first heard that year. My list included Paramore's "The Only Exception," Shinedown's "What a Shame," Automatic Loveletter's "Heartsong," and Saosin's "Bury your head." Some other top contenders were Franz Ferdinand's "The Lobster Quadrille," and 30 Seconds to Mars' "Closer to the Edge." BUT, the one clear winner was Linkin Park's new "Waiting for the End" and awesome song and music video

I'm looking forward to this semester coming to an end, and relaxing a slight bit more with slightly easier classes, and I'll have some more art to post up again soon! (another snow girl, some eye studies, etc.)

Airwaves

I'm a huge Angels and Airwaves fan, I've seen them twice in concert and they're awesome live! There new cd, Love, (free online) is great. They're an inspiration for me when I'm drawing.
Only three track meets left this season, and on of them is the girl's League Meet, with the best girls on every team... I'll be competing but I won't be placing!
Lately I've been working on two art projects, but only on the weekends, between track and homework I have no free time! One of them is a painting, which I will post soon (while in progress) and this drawing is also in progress. I wanted to challenge myself to draw a really good face, and I thought this picture of Mary-Kate Olsen had some really cool shadows, plus her eye looked awesome. I'm doing this in colored pencil and it's taking a long (but fun) time. I still have a ton of work to do... on the hair (which isn't in the photo,) and still on the face.

Wonderland

I can't wait to see Alice in Wonderland in IMAX this wednesday. I've been listening to the soundtrack and some of the songs are awesome, my favorite is Shinedown's "Her name is Alice" I love how Alice is talking in the beginning and end.

That video I took when I went to see Shinedown a couple months ago, they're awesome live, and breaking inside is one of my favorite songs!

I drew the picture last year of a girl from Seventeen magazine; then I was usually drawing faces only from one reference, rather than making my own faces from various references.
