The second project in printmaking is relief printing. We had to do two linoleum carvings.
The first project we could only use black ink, and the purpose was to show a sense of light.

I chose to do an image of my sister Megan and I that had great lighting.

I used carbon paper to transfer the outline of the areas I wanted to cut away onto the linoleum.
Our faces reminded me of two glowing moons in this early stage!

I did some more detail for a mix of marks and gradation on Megan's face. I used all little horizontal marks for her face.

I tried running the linoleum through the press a second time without applying more ink and I like the grey tone

More marks, I used all small vertical marks on myself

One of my final prints - I had a lot!

I waxed some of them... makes light go through them, although this paper is pretty thick. However you DON'T want to to keep this out in sun because the wax can melt

I waxed this final print as well.. it is a thinner paper with threads

Ice Spidey

Storm's prowess over the elements + Batman's genius

Sometimes people have a strong preference for Marvel or DC, but I honestly love characters and stories from both. When I was home at the beginning of the summer I created these three superheroes by pairing a character from DC with one from Marvel. I chose them based on the people I did them for. Above is a Storm - Batman combo I drew for my sister, and I also did a Spiderman - Ice girl for myself, and a Green Lantern - Wolverine combination for Jackson. I'm sure it is a blast coming up with your own superheroes as well!

Spiderman's web + Ice's control over the snow and ice

Green lantern's marvelous ring + Wolvering fearsome claws
Megan brought home mini- canvases (about 2 by 3 inches) and these are 2 of the 5 that I painted.

Funny- looking fella (the smile..?)

I have done these funny guys - faceless, with fiery hair - for years. Who are they, though?

Swinging with the Old Stars

Over spring break I decided to draw something on my free time that would just be for fun, something I could keep, whatever I felt like. I thought that it would be great to do a series of portraits showing me and some of my closest friends at home and at UMaine! I chose pictures of the online, then drew them out in pencil, inked them with pen, and added some color! I had a lot of fun doing this, and it was cool to show it to all of them once I finished. On the left are my friends Maya and Joe from Maine, then my friend and roommate Robyn, my boyfriend Jackson, me, my sister Megan, and my friends from home, Andrea and Magda!

Good portraiture practice! A few of these I got the face down on try one, but some - especially my own - took a bit of erasing and re-drawing!

Me n Jackson

Done with inking, fun, but you don't want to over do it

Finished after a week or two!

Me and Jackson after a formal for his fraternity, ATO

Starting out spring break at Jackson's! We had barely had any snow on winter, but as soon as we left, on the drive home, there was a little snow storm! We made this that night in the dark.

At the end of spring break I flew down and stayed with Megan in her dorm at Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia! It was awesome, the weather was really nice, the city is really pretty, and I got to meet all her friends and her boyfriend, Zach.
